Originating in China over five thousand years ago, acupuncture works by modifying the flow of 'chi' or vital life energy in the human body. The practitioner places sterile stainless steel needles into the body along specific acupuncture points on energy pathways called meridians. Different meridians feed energy to different organs and areas of the body. By locating the meridian that feeds a problem area, the practitioner is able to stimulate or decongest the flow of energy. Acupuncture can restore health and is particularly well known for relieving pain.
